Advanced FLORAL DESIGN WORKSHOP — American Swedish Institute

  • American Swedish Institute 2600 Park Avenue Minneapolis, MN, 55407 United States (map)

Thursday, Sept. 24, 6:30PM - 8:30PM

Go big and bold with floral design while tackling a statement floral arrangement! In this workshop with florist-farmer Elle Sullivan of Mellifera Flowers, students will practice techniques for achieving sculptural designs using florist mechanics and specialty ingredients. Each student will take cues from color theory to craft nuanced and expressive palettes, work with larger vases (more flowers!) to try out dramatic arrangement styles and shapes, and lean on instructor Elle for individual guidance for trying out new design techniques. Using a provided vase and reusable floral mechanics, students will select their ingredients from Mellifera’s farm fresh “flower buffet,” featuring September’s best blooms, such as dahlias, zinnias, and eucalyptus. The resulting arrangements will be an ephermeral piece of art that reflects each participant’s creative eye!

No previous floral experience is necessary, but some comfort with artistic expression is helpful! With the tips and tricks offered in this workshop, students will be able to elevate your farmers’ market, backyard garden, and grocery store bouquets into unique, organic arrangements. This workshop is perfect for gardeners looking to better showcase their blooms, creatives looking for new mediums of expression, or anyone craving more play and self-expression in their life.
